September 16th, 2007 - 07:39
Ehhh I’ve seen better pics of ppl sitting on ledges overhanging a seemingly endless drop
September 16th, 2007 - 07:44
You people are the most naive you all need to get out there in the world and discover places you’ve never been to. This is actually 10 miles east of Narvik. and the reason it is gradiented is because the slab of rock is way closer than the slopes behind it throwing it out of focus. Next time know something before shouting “PHOTOSHOPPED”
September 16th, 2007 - 07:49
This is Trolltunga in Norway
September 16th, 2007 - 10:09
I don’t mind going to the edge if it is stable, but do you trust that particular rock edge to hold your weight?
September 16th, 2007 - 14:31
This is in Norway and is not fake. This place is called “Prekestolen” and is in Lysefjorden, Norway.
September 16th, 2007 - 14:35
Don’t think it’s from Norway. I’m from Norway, and you usually get to know about places like that. And it’s definitely not Prekestolen (the Preacher’s Pulpit )
September 16th, 2007 - 15:39

Yes, it’s real, and yes, some people have the balls to do that, but I’m afraid (no pun intended) my knowledge of basic science (physics, probability, etc.) says that rock has very low tinsel strength vs. it’s compression strength. Those that build concrete structures will tell you that is why steel (a high tinsel strength material) is used to enhance the poor tinsel strength of rock and concrete. While this is a natural structure of rock, not concrete, the science is the same. This outcropping as a many things against it an few things going for it.
The only support is whatever portion of rock (with rock underneath it) it is attached to, and it’s tinsel strength. Gravity is pulling down on everything, and the weakest to gravity it the portion without anything below it, no compression. Picture a pencil and try to bend it without breaking it. Wood, is stronger than rock, when tinsel strength is concerned.
So, you may be brave, and without vertigo when sitting on that edge, but no amount of balls is going to stop tons of rock from falling when it reaches its tinsel limit. Oddly enough, it just may be your extra weight that sets everything in motion. It may not happen now, nor even a hundred years from now, but it WILL happen, and I pity the fool who falls with it.
This reminds me of that guy that said bears are misunderstood and went to live with them and film them, only to be eaten by them in the end; or people that say pit-bulls are harmless. A wild animal with killer instincts tends to remain that way not matter how much love is given to it, or how much perceived love people tend to attribute to it.
Nature tends to prove time and time again that man is wrong no matter how confident they are and how many so-called consensuses they have. Man, cno matter their arrogance and confidence cannot predict nature, nor control it, nor affect it.

September 18th, 2007 - 03:26
Ok, this is not a photoshopped picture, and it is not from Lysefjorden Norway. It is taken in the western part of Norway, in the municipal of Odda. It is not in Lysfjorden. Lysefjorden is a genuine fjord (salt water), but if you look to the bottom right you see a light stripe of exposed rock. The reason is that the lake “Ringedalsvatnet” is being used as a water reservoir for an electricity plant, and the water level vary a lot over short periods of time. The location is very remote, and is correctly named Preikestolen.
Odda, Norway is a amazing place with fjords, lakes, raindeer, glaciers, and it is where I come from.
September 19th, 2007 - 12:01
Morten: thanks for identifying the place. Can you tell me how high the ledge is from the ground below?
September 20th, 2007 - 05:40

October 19th, 2007 - 15:28
Not photoshop. It is a real rock, in Norway. It’s name, when translated into English is ‘Elves tongue’.
October 20th, 2007 - 21:00
Very cool. Gives me vertigo just looking at it. But I have to keep looking! May need to go to Norway.
December 9th, 2007 - 11:54
